Duart Castle, Isle Of Mull

TheTamshee: spent some time circum-navigating Duart Castle or ( Caisteal Dhubhairt ) on the majestic Isle Of Mull. The castle dates back to the 13th century and was the seat of Clan MacLean This oddly shaped fortress was used as a location in the 1999 film Entrapment, starring Sean Connery  who has MacLean ancestry on his mother's side.

Fallow Deer @ Loch Buie, Mull

TheTamshee: says that it's not only red deer that roam the lush moors of Mull. These shots of Fallow Deer Stag & Hinds were taken while passing the old school house on the road to Loch Buie. They tend to be skitish and will not tolerate people getting to close but patience and a stealthy approach can be rewarded with some descent photographs.

Common Buzzard @ Isle Of Mull

TheTamshee: was well chuffed with these Common Buzzard photos because it is notoriously difficult to capture these raptors at close range and get some detail. Typically they will sense danger and fly off with that slow deliberate wing motion and take up a new perch on the next telegraph pole. Check out this Link for more photography from the Isle Of Mull.

Red Deer @ Isle Of Mull

TheTamshee: travelled to Oban and caught the Isle Of Mull ferry to Craignure. This westerly Isle is one of the gems of scotland; with an abundance of wildlife and scenic landscapes. The weather over the first couple of days was rather blustery with little opportunity to spot the wild otters around the picturesque lochs of Spelve or Loch na Keil. On leaving the ferry my first destination was Grasspoint where you are very likely to see the Red Deer and at this time of the year the rutting seasons is apparent with stags breaking the morning tranquility with bellowing roars.

Stags & Otters

TheTamshee: spent five days on the glorious Isle Of Mull in the company of Ron McCombe (Scottish wildlife photographer of the year 2010) Our plan for the week was to scan the glens for Stags; and the sea lochs in search of Otters. We were on the road each day before first light which offered good opportunities to get Red Deer grassing on the low pastures. The rutting season is apon us but this was not that apparent throughout our stay; with only minor scuffles between young stags. We stalked a herd of twenty plus hinds with one dominent stag chasing the few young bucks on a few occasions. The elusive Otters were the real challenge a good pair of binoculars and systematically scanning the shoreline pays off, with a number otters spotted and stalked over the kelp covered coastline around Loch Spelve and Loch Na Keil. See Here for the Tamshee's Photography flickr photostream of all the wildlife encountered on this great experience. Including a real bonus of photographing the majestic White Tailed Eagle

Red Deer On Mull

TheTamshee: headed south and west along the A849 Glen More road in search of Red Deer grazing in the shadows of Ben Buie (717m) As the light faded I continued around Loch Beg while looking north to the summit of Ben More (966m) the only munro on Mull. As the single track road meanders west then north to the shore of Loch Na Keal you are treated to spectangular scenery with Beinn a Ghraig (591m) dominating. Continue along the B8035 to pass through Gruline then turn right to take the tourist route back to Salen on the east coast of the island.

Stonechat @ Grasspoint, Mull

TheTamshee: walked out to Grasspoint in search of sea eagles but only managed this photo of the lively Stonechat perched on rusty wire in blustery conditions.
