Short Eared Owl

TheTamshee:spent a bright but cold day in the company of a handful of Short Eared Owls on the east coast of scotland. The light conditions were favourable but it can be very tricky capturing these magnificent predators in full flight. They are constantly changing direction while scanning the grassy terrain for a tasty rodent. Check out Tamshee's Photography photostream / Flickr for more of the set

Short Eared Owls

TheTamshee: spent a wet and blustery day in the company of Ron McCombe; scanning some northumberland grassland in search of Short Eared Owls. As the light faded late into the afternoon, we were rewarded with a flurry of activity when the local farmer and some duck hunters disturbed the hedgerow habitat frequented by these magnificient silent predators. There was a number of short eared owls spooked which spiralled and swopped into the strong south westerly wind but I turned my attention to one owl which had taken a perch on the wire fence post.
